Is it cruel to keep a cat/kitten inside? I also live on a top floor flat!?
i absolutely adore animals, myself and my fiance are considering getting a rescue kitten. I have done lots of research and have looked after cats all my life. I’m just worried that it is cruel to keep it inside, although it would be getting lots of attention and love. our flat is big (all top floor of a victorian house) so it would have lots of room and hiding places! I just wanted some opinions and reassurance as to whether this would be ok and not cruel. we also live next to a busy road. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!
No, it is not cruel! And your cat will live a longer, healthier life. Just ask your vet. I have 7 cats (5 abandoned/rescued added to my 2) and have had several cats prior. All were indoor cats. The last one that I had to put down because of old age was 19 1/2 years old. His mother passed at 17. The oldest of my cats now is 13, the youngest 2 are 1 year old next month. All my cats are happy, healthy, fit, well-adjusted, spayed/neutered, and they all get along with each other. Don’t feel bad, you’ll be doing it a favor. And if all those reasons aren’t enough, think of the busy road. Just get it a scratching post, a litter box, some toys, and maybe a bed. Throw in some lovins, and she’ll be just fine.
Oh, and depending on the flat, the view, and the cat, you may want to consider a window seat in a sunny window. They love that!
