What makes your wedding unique?
I’m sure if you’ve been on Y!A long enough, you already know this about my wedding, but we’re doing a couple of unique things –
1. My ‘something blue’ is “Mrs.Black” and “10/18/08″ embroidered in baby blue on an inner layer of my dress
2. Our unity ceremony is “tying the knot” which is something I created and worded.
We aIt is kind of along the same lines as handfasting, but not really. I bought a very inexpensive 6″ quilt hanger, which the pastor will hold, and after our vows, our mothers will present us each with a long (2 1/2 feet) piece of ribbon – his black, mine ivory (our wedding colors). The pastor will say a few words about how our ribbons are unique until we bind them together into an impenetrable knot, and we’ll tie it. We’re going to hang the knot in the house and tie a new one every year on our anniversary.

LOL! Where do I start?
1. We’re in our 40s, and this is the first marriage for us both.
2. Both the ceremony and reception are at the zoo, cocktails with the giraffes. We’re subtly incorporating an animal theme throughout the wedding.
3. We designed the entire ceremony, wrote our own vows, are choosing a non-traditional reading, and his sister got ordained just to perform the ceremony.
4. The processional songs are “At Last” for my MoH and “Happy Together” for me. The recessional is “Signed, Sealed, Delivered”. A little cheeky, all.
5. I’m using my ring (a family heirloom from his side) as both my engagement and wedding ring.
6. My dress is an ivory-colored formal rather than a traditional wedding dress.
7. We’re having just a matron of honor and best man in the wedding party. All of our siblings, and only our siblings, have a part in the ceremony.
8. Instead of a shower and bachelorette party (neither of which I wanted), my sister rented a beach house for a week for mine and my fiance’s siblings to get to know each other the first half of the week, and for my group of girlfriends the second half.
9. No bouquet or garter tosses. Instead, my bouquet will be made with white lilies and six yellow roses, and the florist will wrap it so that I can take it apart. I will present a rose to each of my sisters-in-law and my sister in a “sister” recognition.
10. Instead of a guest book, our grown nieces will take Poloroid photos of each guest or couple and ask them to sign the photo or write a few words of wisdom on them. We’ll then put them into a photo album.
There are other little things, but these are the big ones. I love you knot-tying ceremony!
