History of Lucky Stryke
In 1916 American introduced its most popular brand, Lucky Strike cigarettes, and in 1939 it introduced one of the first king-size cigarettes, Pall Mall (an old name reapplied to a new cigarette). The sales of these two brands made American Tobacco the most successful cigarette manufacturer of the 1940s. Initially under brand “Lucky Strike” were produced and sold to population pressed tobacco. However, for long time this brand wasn’t notable with anything special and was only one of many in USA.
Although history of famous tobacco brands is always history of deception and advertising, victorious march of Lucky Strike has begun from advanced technologies. In 1916 brand began to produce cigarettes but already in a year, desiring to determine competitors has employed a really innovative method of tobacco preparation. If others have dried up tobacco leafs under the sun rays, Lucky Strike manufacturers went further and began to fry them. Due to tosterization (namely in this way that process was named), inside the leafs caramelization reaction took place. Thanks to it tobacco comes out not only more fragrant but also acquired chocolate and coffee taste.
Cigarettes with inscription “It’s Toasted” began quickly to press competitors. Many tobacco manufacturers immediately have begun to experiment with fry up regime. It means that was necessary to look for new ways of sales promotion. Besides in front of manufacturers was success of such brand as Camel cigarettes. But “camels” have obtained success only due to unusual advertising campaign. Useful experience was decided to be adopted.
