what do these silver hallmarks mean?
My mum has an old teapot that has in a row an H a tree then an L and underneath a G there is also the numbers 1668 engraved on the bottom.
It could be silver or silver plated, we aren’t sure as it is so black it is hard to tell and she only cleaned the under part. I have tried to research and I think the tree stands for Glasgow, which makes sense as she lives near there.
It is on an old teapot that is covered in an engraved leaf detail with a leaf hinge with ivory hinge pins

I’m sorry I don’t know the specifics of those markings, but if it is really from the year 1668 it has got to be valuable, and solid sterling silver as they didn’t invent silver plating until the 1800s. Don’t let someone lowball you and get this piece from you for cheap
