Saint Patrick
Did you know that Saint Patrick was a bigot?

So he drove out the snakes from Ireland…
There never were any snakes in Ireland, history shows, so the general consensus is that they are referring to the Pagan Druids of the time who used a lot of Snake Symbolism for various rituals and the like.
Did he kill or just drive out the non-believers from Ireland? I’m not too clear on that point.
Can you site your answer plz ma’am?

There is some debate if Patrick drove out the Druids or The Celtic Pagan Clans.

The earliest known records of the Druids come from the 3rd century BC. According to Julius Caesar, who is the principal source of information about the Druids, there were two groups of men in Gaul that were held in honor, the Druids and the noblemen (what we would call today as the Clans of early pagan Celts). At the time of the Roman invasion, the Druids attempted to join together the Clans of the Celts, believing each region held the same beliefs, legends and stories, but maintained local names for the characters in those legends. The Druids also believed that in uniting the Clans they could have an unbeatable force to fight against the Roman Invasion. A concept of United we Stand, Divided we Fall. And they were right. The Clans would not unite under the Druids and Roman conquered the lands of the Gauls. The Druids were suppressed in Gaul by the Romans under Tiberius (reigned AD 14–37) and eventually voluntarily disbanded. The question that no one seems to be sure of is..when did this occur. For sure the Druids did not unit all the Clans. So there were definitely Druids in Ireland along with other pagan paths, which most refer to as Celtic Shamanistic Pagans.

St. Patrick came along around 389–461 AD as a British missionary and bishop in Ireland. About 200 years after Caesar says the Druids were suppressed. So there’s plenty of time for the Druids to have disbanded and for the remaining Celtic Pagans to reassert their control over their lands. There were many kings ruling at this time. And while Patrick is historically identified as a great orator converting pagans to Christianity, he was arrested numerous times by these royal families. But stories indicate he escaped each time he was arrested. For 20 years he had traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion of the pagans. He developed a native clergy, fostered the growth of monasticism, established dioceses, and held church councils.

There are many legends associated with St Patrick. Such as; he used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity to the pagans; referring to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This became one of the symbols associated with him and later associated with St. Patty’s Day. One of his Saintly legends has Patrick putting the curse of God on venomous snakes in Ireland. And he drove all the snakes into the sea where they drowned. The snakes representing the “Snake of Eden” in the form of the ‘evil’ Pagans that are defeated by Patrick.

Hope that helps.
