What is the best restorative method for me?

I will soon have work done on an incisor and molar that the dentist says have decayed beyond the possibility of a simple filling. If I understand correctly, there are different routes I could take including amalgam, resin composites, ceramic inlays, and crowns. My dentist strongly recommends CEREC CAD/CAM ceramic inlays, but I would like a second opinion. Research I have done on the internet seems to suggest it isn’t all that better than cheaper methods and is not good for molars, but I’m no expert so I could be misunderstanding. So I would feel better if other professionals could confirm or disconfirm my dentist’s position. Is CEREC really the best option for me? If the only reason it’s best is cosmetic, or if he’s trying to push the CEREC to pay for that milling machine, or because its the only method my insurance won’t force him to give a discount on, then I’ll take a cheaper route. Thanks in advance to all professionals who respond.

Simply speaking, amalgam and composite resin fillings are the materials that would be used for ‘simple fillings’, so those options are out.

Your best bet may be to have porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns made for the teeth. They are strong, durable, and will take the pressure of every day wear on the teeth.

After the impression is taken, you would leave the office with a temporary crown until the permanent one returns from the lab where it’s made…
