Rare Ethnic

Do you think the caste system in Indian society has been misunderstood in the later years?
Originally it was either used to classify the people according to their profession or their ethnicity.
As different castes have different ethnicities.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ethnic_groups_in_India
But in later years people have cooked up the story of higher castes and lower caste.
Even though caste discrimination is rare these days, but this news hasn’t crossed the borders yet. The western world still have such mentality about caste system in India.
I have gone through the responses and find a broad distribution in favour of and against the suggestion contained in your question.
Veers sir said right things but still laments that India had not got the courage to disclaim the Caste system as Pope did in the case of the Bible belief. In the first place, the Caste system as existed and now existing are vastly different, as already explained by people here. The Veda spells the classes of people (Purusha Sooktham) and Sri Krishna elaborated the essence as clarified by Veers perfectly.
The caste is not promoted, rather dismissed in our Constitution itself. What more is wanted when there is no Vedic / religious or legal stipulation in the discrimination any more?
There was no great caste discriminations before the colonial regimes reigned here. The alien rulers divided the kings, people and even Faiths and territories. Veers however says that still there is discrimination which is not agreed by many. The caste is played by vested interests only but people in urban, semi urban areas and most rural side also desist from any serious caste preferences. There are isolated cases of Temple entry restrictions etc however. Don’t we find still the racial instinct in countries that have done away with the evil long ago, by statutory stipulations? Average whites are liberal and do not subscribe to racial bias, though a few extremists do exist in every group, as we see in Aussie or elsewhere. So in a big country some freak exceptions are bound to be there.
Just blowing non existent things out of proportion and inviting the familiar criticism of mis guided foreigers (like the responses of two American Indians here) is most unwise. I would advise people like Veers who are normally very shrewd and reasonable to exercise more restraint and objectivity in responding to sensitive issues.
@@Veers is a wise person but upset by the point raised by Sanathan wherefore he is provoked to drag Krishna and Epics to assert need for Reservation. Well. Reservation would be there whatever Sanathan or Bala would say, in fact, it would extend to Muslim poor, Xian poor, Parsi poor, Atheist backward and so forth. Don’t worry. They would spread to hundred percent vote bank minorities of sorts and nullify what remains of the benefit to BC and SC ultimately.
Krishna came to destroy Adharma but you would dispute even that and I can not match your wisdom to disclaim the Lord’s own declaraion that he came to establish Righteousness, because he caused Karna to be killed against your perception of Dharma or something. So I can not defeat your bias caused by illusions that do not spare even great souls.
I shall just bow to your right to register your views and leave the message to the wisdom of visitors. After all so many misinformed ones pour their prejudices here, but it hurts only when people we hold in esteem stumble. Regards.
