What paint do I need to touch up my Hyundai?
I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent. It’s noble white and has some dark scratches from some jerk sideswiping me while I was away at work. I’m ordering paint online… do I need primer? clearcoat? and paint? I’m confused between the 3. Thanks!
Sorry to hear. If the scratch is down to bare metal you can paint it with a touch up pen for instance, but note that it’ll start to show signs of rust in a couple years. Best bet for bare metal is to prime, sand, paint, sand, paint again and then add a clearcoat base if you wish, but clearcoat isn’t entirely necessary. It helps protect the paint mostly from UV rays and very very light scratches (from driving close to a tree for instance).
There are many different ways to ‘paint’ and for a small scratch for a five year old car, I’d prime it lightly, paint it twice and let it be and sand after priming and painting the first coat or you’ll see where the scratch was as the new paint will be twice the height.
