Exactly what is a Tiffany Lamp?
Is just not like mica lamp shades, a Tiffany lamp is famous best because of its glass lampshade of the many colors and designs. Although Tiffany table and lamp bases sometimes have its intricate designs, it’s best known because of the glass shades that adorn the light.
The Tiffany lamp name emanates from its inventor, Louis Comfort Tiffany, who produced Tiffany lamps from your late 1880′s until 1930.
Tiffany made the lamps by soldering items of cut, colored glass that he had left from stained glass windows he had made years earlier. He cut a variety and colors of glass based on a pattern that she designed.
If the glass pieces were cut, he cleaned each piece and applied copper foil towards the edges. The pieces were then organized to fit the pattern design, Tiffany would then solder each patch together; thereby creating one solid piece from was formerly many individual bits of glass. The copper foil helped bond the solder to every bit of glass, creating a lampshade that contained a single, solid wire throughout. Your final cleaning would enhance the vibrant colors of the shade.
A Brief History of Tiffany lamps and it is Inventor
Louis Comfort Tiffany was the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, of Tiffany and Co. the jewelry store and fine merchandise. Rather than following in his father’s footsteps, Louis sought some other career in a variety of arts. Inside the 1880s Tiffany began to design the primary from the Tiffany Lamps. The primary on the Tiffany Lamps were very geometric, using basic shapes for example squares, triangles and circles in their mosaic designs.
The lamps became most liked during the early 1900s and interest in them increased. Tiffany hired an employee of unmarried women workers who became the “Tiffany Girls”. The Tiffany Girls helped design and cut glass to produce the lamps. The sort of woman was Clara Driscoll, who became the director and designer of many of Tiffany’s hottest designs. A few of her most favored designs were the Wisteria, Dragonfly, Peony, and also the Daffodil.
The interest on Tiffany lamps deteriorated inside the late 1920s and the company shut its doors in 1930. Louis Comfort Tiffany died in 1933.

Geometric Designs
Geometric Tiffany lamps were designed using glass cut into basic shapes like squares, triangles, diamonds, and rectangles and used just a few colors.
The geometric designs included the Lotus Leaf, Acorn, Spider web, Parasol, Nautilus Seashell, Indian Basket and Turtleback designs. These designs are incredibly symmetrical and were some of Tiffany’s first work. Although a symmetrical design may appear somewhat bland, Tiffany’s by using color and shapes made the lamps sparkle.
Flowered Dome Designs
The flowered domes include a variety of colors inside shade. The domes are rounded, draping domes, unlike the standard cone form of a typical shade. Designs range from the Dragonfly, Daffodil, Peony, Bamboo, Oriental poppy, Apple Blossom, Poinsettia and for that reason a lot more.
Flowered Cones
Just like flowered domes, the flowered cone lamps were symmetrical with all the floral designs and were a little more being a typical cone-shaped shade. Tiffany’s utilization of color, design, and shapes set his flowered cones far besides any typical shade through the day. The Dragonfly, Oriental poppy, along with the Peony designs were also made with all the cone design. The Lily Pad, Grape, Water Lily and Arrowroot were exclusively manufactured in the cone design.
Wisteria Designs
The Wisteria design is among Tiffany’s most widely used designs. This design became very popular because the finished lamp actually appears like a Wisteria tree. The lamp fixture resembles the trunk while lamp shade seems like the blossoming limbs. Detail of branches and limbs hanging down were put into add great detail towards the shade. Using vibrant color and irregular edges draw a 2nd or third turn to see if it is indeed a lampshade.
Using their resurgence of popularity, it is extremely difficult to get an authentic Tiffany lamp. Some original Tiffany lamps have commanded prices inside the huge amounts of money for the single lamp.
If this sounds a little through your cost range, there are many Tiffany-inspired or Tiffany style lamps in the marketplace for fairly reasonable prices.
