is this funeral procedure acceptable in new york?
like, have a church/memorial service at st. patricks where the viewing of the body will be held and then immediately after that, everyone journeys to new york city marble cemetary for the burial. ps- is the cemetary nearby? i know it’s in manhattan.or is trinity cemetary nearer? i mean which is more upscale? can u hold a funeral service at st patricks if u’re not actually a member?
Usually if there will be an open viewing of the deceased, it is held at a funeral parlor. At a Christian religious service, the casket is always closed. It might be possible to hold a viewing/reception at one of the church parlors, then close the casket and have the religious ceremony immediately afterward.
Not everyone who attends a funeral is obligated or expected to go on to the cemetery for the burial. Generally it’s just family and close friends. Sometimes in winter weather, the burial must be delayed until the ground thaws out in the spring. The deceased person’s body is kept in a cold vault in the meantime.
You can always ask at St. Patrick’s for their specific requirements. Funeral customs vary considerably, and some churches are more flexible than others. Every funeral I’ve ever been to has been a little different.
