6 yr old Peruvian horse that was a stallion & I had him gelded. How long 2 clam down?
He was pretty good as a stallion. Could be ridden around mares and could pass by them within 15 feet with no problem. He would never drop it or lounge at them. He is even just in a bozal still. I just bought this horse and found him to be pretty easy stallion but Im not ever going to breed him and just want him to be a better horse around the barn over all. He was only bred 3 times and just used a a treaser stallion. How long goes it take for them to clam down. I am hoping he keeps a few stud treat but is just more clam over all. He is a bit of a smartass, honest but a smartass. Thanks for the feedback
The older the horse is when you geld him the longer it will take for him to heal. And even though you have made the decision and gone ahead and gelded him he may still retain STUD qualities without being able to do his breeding duties. Even though he was only bred 3 times- he’s still had that sensation
Even if he was only used as a teaser stallion- that is more than enough to make him act like a stud that has been to the breeding shed a hundred times. This is because a teaser stallion is simply used to prepare the mare for breeding and to prevent injury to the prize stud that will be mounting her.
Your equine should completely heal within 4-6 months which is normally when the first differences in gelded equines is noticed. It may not be behavioral but your equines body will most likely start to take a different shape- his neck may not retain that nice stallion curve or your horse may put on a few odd pounds in other places- such as shoulders, barrel or flank.
