Can some one develope an allergy to silver?
I have this sterling silver kokopelli ring that I wear all the time….I noticed my finger felt itchy this morning ….so when I pulled off the ring my finger was broken out under the band….and last month I had to get rid of my Seiko watch because my wrist was breaking out where the back of the watch rubbed…..I’ve heard of nickel allergies but can a person develope allergies to other metals?….(I figured all you piercers will have an answer for this one)

You can develop allergies to just about anything (food, pollens, metal, whatever) and it can be random when it happens. I’ve heard about and met people who are allergic to lots of types of metal and I know people who used to be okay with some kinds, but it changed over time. Lucky for me, I’m a resilient girl and haven’t had problems yet….
The best thing to do for now is to discontinue use of that particular ring (obvious and I know it sucks to not wear it) and I usually suggest that you check to make sure the ring is high quality or at least what you thought it was. And make sure the area clears up, if it doesn’t you should see a doctor and you could always get allergy tests done to see what else you should avoid. Sorry to hear about it Rider
Edit: Reading up on sterling silver, its only about 90-93% silver and does have traces of copper and other impure metals in it. It is possible that the amount of other materials is small to where its just now starting to wear down and irritate your skin. Though there is a chance that you have become allergic to silver as well, I strongly feel its the 7-10% of ‘other’ metals that is causing it.
