insignia ring what is this club or society ? D OF P ?
This is a ring and a badge from “social organization from the 30′s and or 40′s in New jersey . Its gold with these things on it. On the front it is a lenni Lanappe Indian, ingraved and its got Blue Inlaid Lapis around the INdian. on the side is got D OF P ???? on the other side it has two either hatchets or axes crossing. I have looked for 4 years to identify this ring THE badge is the 153 Council of D OF P with the crossing hatchets and my grandmothers name at the top. I have looked every where on ancestry.com and IN the news papers from the 40′s to see when this club met, but only found the INITALS OF THE CLUB. But I thought it was daughters of Pilgrims and or Daughters of Patriots, But their jewerly is not the same. This is a mystery and would love some help, some one has to know, than you for your time . thanks

The Degree of Pocahontas is the women’s affiliate of The Improved Order of Red Men. It was organized in 1885 and soon councils had sprung up across the United States. The organization takes its name from the famous Pocahontas, daughter of the powerful Native American Chief Powhatan of the Algonquian Indian Tribe, of which the Lenni Lenape (Len-na Len-NAW-pay) people are part of.

The Improved Order of Red Men is a fraternal organization established in Baltimore, Maryland in 1834. Their rituals and regalia are modeled after those used by Native Americans. The organization claimed a membership of about half a million in 1935, but has declined to less than 38,000.
The order itself claims direct descent from the Sons of Liberty, noting that the Sons participated in the Boston Tea Party dressed as Native Americans. Their ladies’ auxiliary is the Degree of Pocahontas.
