for teachers only-is anyone else burnt out and feeling undervalued???
NCLB and budget cuts are bringing me down. i teach sp.ed., and today i got word that our superintendent wants to increase our caseloads to at least 35 kids!!!!!!!! i had this when i taught on the navajo rez, and it just doesn’t work!!! i had IEP meetings all the time, and i knew nothing about the kid!!! sometimes i couldn’t even pick the kid out of a lineup if i had to!!! that’s partly why i left!
35, is he CRAZY??? he used to teach in WA state, and said he did it and made it work. well, i taught in seattle for 6 years, and WA is a huge union state, and i want to know why he didn’t file a grievance if he had that many kids.
i just feel burnt out and undervalued, unappreciated, and i wish i had chosen another career. anyone else want to commiserate?
I”m with you. 35 kids in ESE is insane.
But WHY do you go everyday?
We all have our days (or months!) when we are “about over it” but we all go back. It’s not fair to give up on the kids b/c we are overwhelmed with stupid paperwork about doing paperwork that the county/state sends down.
Take a mini vacation and lots of deep breaths.
You teach ESE. You are valued more than you know. I could never do what you do.
