Fine Earthenware
Potterers/sculptures – HELP with clay!!?

I’ve just gone out and bought a slab of 30 mesh school earthenware stoneware, but for my class it says i need fine white earthenware. I could not find any other ones of this type, and the other two suppliers are too hard for me to get to. The clay i bought can be used for anything from building, throwing to coiling, which is what i’d be doing with the fine white as well.

Is there a huge difference between the two? I am assuming the fine white is smooth and the one i bought will have a sandy surface and it is more an off white colour, but that does not bother me. I just need to know if i can get the same results from either clay. If everyone but me is using fine white, does that mean i cannot have my clay fired at the same temp as everyone else?

Yes i have just emailed them, but i thought i’d ask here too. I’m kind of freaking out because i don’t want to have just wasted my money on it.

Thanks =
Pardon the spelling, i was typing like crazy *cringes*

You will be fine. There are differences in the way it will turn out but not in the way it handles.

You nee to kneed the clay before throwing it… that will be a problem as you can not do it on the same spot as the rest. It would mess with the color. The kiln will fire the same for any clay. They will not suffer in any way. It is all stoneware.
