Choosing the Right Silver Earrings
Slowly but surely, earrings have made a comeback. Today it’s almost impossible to overlook them – and who would want to? (If you’re channeling retro, better to bring back earrings than those sweatpants with the marching-band stripe down the side…).

With such a wide and varied array of earrings available, it’s time to retire those tiny, tired old post earrings and find something new and trend-worthy.

Like all fashion accessories, earrings can add heaps of charm to your look, upgrading any item in your wardrobe. But you must choose carefully, and find the earrings best suited to your physique. When choosing earrings, you should consider the shape of your face, the structure of your neck, the colour of your eyes – even, for the perfectionists amongst you – the way you plan to coif your hair. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best earrings for you:
• The neck
Women with a short neck should wear longer, dangling earrings, which will give the impression that your neck is longer than it is.
Women with a long neck look best in shorter earrings, which moderate the length of the neck and draw attention to the face.
• The face
The round face: Prefer earrings with a dangling pendant or an elongated shape, or earrings with sharp angles or a geometric shape. Avoid round earrings or small post earrings.
The square face: Prefer either post earrings or dangling earrings. Hoop earrings and gypsy-style earrings will also look great.
The heart-shaped face: Prefer post earrings and short-length, sparkling earrings. Avoid long dangling earrings that will “draw” your jaw downward.
The oval face: Prefer long, chandelier earrings – but almost any style of earring will complement your look.
• The eyes
Those with pale or light-coloured eyes will look best in earrings with blue or green gemstones or accents.
Those with dark eyes will look best in earrings with yellow, amber, or purple gemstones or accents.
Like an uncomfortable shoe, an earring that hurts can be a nuisance; choose earrings that are comfortable for you. It’s always best to purchase earrings of high-quality (925 sterling) silver, gold filled or gold, as earrings made of a cheap alloy may irritate the earlobe. Remember: While it’s always great to be mindful of fashion, first please yourself – your own taste, character, and style of dress. When choosing earrings, like anything else – look in the mirror and trust your judgment.
