Look Like A Goddess In Ancient Egyptian Jewelry
All of us girls love to feel like a goddess and what better way than wearing clothing and jewelry that makes us feel gorgeous and sexy. If you had to look to a particular style that has been popular in the Western world for hundreds of years then you need look no further than Ancient Egypt. The Egyptian style is constantly reinvented especially by fashion designer and you only have to look to collections such as Marchesa 2009 to see how popular they still are. Included in Marchesa’s Resort 2009 collection were various Egyptian inspired items. There were gowns and dresses inspired by Cleopatra with beautiful pleating and drapery in white and gold.
Not only will beautifully draped Egyptian style dresses make you look like a goddess but adding a piece of ancient Egyptian inspired jewelry will take the look to the next level. Jewelry was very important in Ancient Egyp and was worn by both men and women. It was worn not only as a symbol of wealth but also as a protection from evil. Religion was an inherent part of life in Ancient Egypt. This can be seen in the symbols which appear in their jewelry: scarab beetles, ankhs, eyes of Horus and falcons. It was common to wear bracelets, collars, earrings, rings, wreaths, crwons, hair bands and necklaces and mainly they used gold and silver inlaid with glass and semi-precious stones. The most popular materials at that time were lapis lazuli, turquoise, amethyst, cornelian, jasper, onyx and quartz crystal. Color was extremely important and had a different mythological meaning: green was for new life and rebirth; life and rebirth was symbolized by blue, the color of heaven and water; life and victory was symbolized by red, the color of fire and the blood of Isis; eternity and indestructability was symbolized by yellow and death and night were symbolized by the color black.
What has been copied most from the Egyptians? It’s a broad or wide collar called an Usekh. These collars were often made from hundreds of turquoise, lapis lazuli or coral beads and were usually worn by Royalty or priests. You only have to look to the famous and iconic bust of Queen Nefertiti to see her wearing a beautiful collar. If you want to look like the beautiful Nefertiti then you could either make or buy an Egyptian style collar which would certainly add a touch of glamour to either a toga inspired dress or even a plain black dress.
