Whats the best type of gold necklace to get?

because i don’t want a too pure piece because it will break easy, but i want to be able to say that its real gold, and not some crappy plated thing that’ll chip off in the first month.

14 kt is pretty much the standard though 18kt is also popular. Gold is a very soft metal, so the higher the percentage of gold, the softer it is and the less likely it is to hold a shape well, so it gets bent a lot easier. 24kt is solid gold. 10 kt is a lot harder as it has less gold and more alloy, BUT, being harder makes it more brittle. Where 14 kt gold will bend, 10 kt gold will break.
Another thing you will want to watch for is that the wire used to make the chain is solid, not hollow. They can call it ‘solid gold’ if it’s not plated, but, the wire may just be a tube of gold that can be easily crushed and difficult to repair.
It’s better to get a smaller chain that isn’t hollow. It will be a lot sturdier long term. Plus, if it gets scratched, they can be buffed out by a jeweler. If it’s hollow, buffing will make it too thin..
