Dunedin Celtic Arts Festival – the magnetic event of arts

The second largest city in the South Island of New Zealand, Dunedin is nestled in the valleys and hills enclosing the head of Otago Harbour. Having both rural and urban attractions, the city offers travellers the opportunity to simply escape the bustle of the crowds in Queenstown.  Considered as one of New Zealand’s main urban centres for cultural, historic and geographical reasons, Dunedin has numerous art galleries, prominent theatres and is home to many choirs. It is said that the city lends its name to the Dunedin Sound, a type of Indie rock music which was formed here in the 1980′s.

Dunedin Celtic Arts Festival takes place gathering the very best of New Zealand’s Celtic performers, artists and musicians in a special programme that celebrates the country’s contemporary and traditional Irish and Scottish cultures whilst gently weaving them together with the locals of the place.

The bi-annual festival is run by the New Edinburgh Folk Club which originated in 1975. Established as a platform for contemporary and traditional acoustic music, the people gather to share their skills, talents and repertoire in a semi-formal social forum. Continuing to shine as an impress active club with three annual festivals, weekly club nights, workshops, social activities and sessions as well as regular concerts, the club openly invites everybody, audience and performers alike to all the events.

Rapidly becoming a must-attend event, the Dunedin Celtic Arts Festival happens over twelve days in October celebrating the arts, music and culture the city shares with its ancestors. Lively performances from top Scottish, Irish, Australian and local Celtic musicians in addition to displays of dance, lectures, tours, instrument tuitions, tours, lectures, textile displays and films are included in the festival. From cutting-edge fashion to learning to play traditional instruments and being involved in the alternative and folk movement, the festival is known to have something interesting for everyone.

Travellers seeking Dunedin hotels could set their sights on Millennium Hotels and Resorts New Zealand. Offering an array of special New Zealand hotel packages designed to provide the visitors unparalleled service, these hotels are highly preferred by the discerning traveller to the country.
