Bronze Thors
Symbol/Design I’m not familiar with — Thor’s Hammer –?

On this Mjollnir pendant — http://cgi.ebay.com/DH-bronze-thors-hammer-mjollnir-viking-sca-norse-1154A_W0QQitemZ250421760907QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item3a4e4cd38b&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14 –
there is a symbol/design that I’ve never seen before. What does the COC (second C is backwards) mean?

Thanks!

a lot of the replicas have the same design.

I like the answer that it is just a fancy design. It definately saves from having to either admit that you don’t know or making up something that is not true. It’s amusing in most ways. The thing about the horse shoe was a good try to. Seeing as hanging the horseshoe above your door for good luck was a tradition that started because of the symbolism of the horse, the shape of the horse shoe represents the rune Uruz which is a protective rune that represents primitive power and the horse shoe is nailed in with a hammer using nails that represent the rune Isa freezing it in a state of protection. Never the less, that’s not what it is. Made me giggle though.

However if you recognize religious symbols you should look a little closer at the symbol. They are right in saying that it is not c o c with the second c backwords. Ever seen the wiccan symbol used mostly for moon magic? The full moon with the two phases of the crecent moon on either side? One which represents waining the other represents waxing? That is what that symbol is.

You also forgot to ask about the symbol above it, the one that looks like a sideways D. That one is the rising sun.

The replicas actually have a different design yet similar. the design in the replicas that are similar show the rune Gebo (gift) at the center of a circle. Gebo was a comon rune, as was thorisaz on the thors hammer pendants. Circles usually represent, the earth, the cosmos, the creator, or the mind of the creator. Being that this is a heathen pendant to thor and thor is a earth god and protector of man and that “infinity symbol” represents the world serpant who he is destined to destroy at ragnorok, the circle probably represents the world.
