Have Some Fun: Unconventional Ways to Wear Handmade Silver Necklaces
Did you know jewellery can be fun? Especially necklaces. Those long, dangly things – or short prim things – are particularly suited to fun and games. We ourselves prefer handmade silver necklaces, for their quality and craftsmanship. But even though they’re handmade, you needn’t worry yourself about the hardiness of silver necklaces: they’re durable enough to be mixed and matched in any number of ways. Here are some fun things you can try with your handmade silver necklaces, which will leave you looking fabulous!
Longer handmade silver necklaces, especially those with close-strung or smaller links, are made to be twisted and turned. Tie your handmade silver necklace into a knot about mid-length, or toward the last third of the necklace, for a fun look that’s reminiscent of the 1920s. A long handmade sliver necklace can also be wound around the neck multiple times, for a choker or “opera necklace” effect. A similar effect will be produced by winding one third of the necklace around your neck so that it lies close to the collarbone, whilst letting the rest of it dangle.
This latter effect – of wearing one short silver necklace and one long one – can also be achieved by, well, wearing one short handmade silver necklace and one long one. Pairing a choker with a long necklace can produce quite an elegant look, if both have small links of the highest-quality silver. But while we’re on the topic of mixing and matching, we’ll also recommend wearing multiple handmade silver necklaces at once. Wear several with large links for the gypsy look, or mix it up with silver necklaces of differing size links to keep in step with the boho chic look. You can also mix silver necklaces with beads with all-silver necklaces, silver necklaces with gold or gold-filled necklaces, and silver necklaces with leather necklaces. An antique silver necklace will also look fabulous when paired with a modern one. Or mix styles, wearing a handmade silver necklace with geometric adornments together with a handmade silver necklace with round ones, for example.
Another cool thing you can do with a handmade silver necklace is wind it around your wrist multiple times and wear it as a bracelet. Silver necklaces strung with widely-spaced, small gemstones look very fine when worn this way. If your handmade silver necklace has particularly prominent or thick links, you can even wear it as a hair band – either straight across the forehead in 1960s style, or at the crown of the head, to hold back longer hair. To do this, choose either a shorter silver necklace that will fasten right at the back of the head or the nape of the neck or, conversely, use a longer handmade silver necklace that you can “tie off” at the appropriate point, leaving shining silver strands to flow down your back. This will look smashing with a halter top or barebacked dress.
So you see, a handmade silver necklace is never merely what it appears to be. It’s a whole world of fun and fashion!
