Beautiful Lot
2011

Is it true that a lot of really beautiful, model type women are actually sterile because they have an extra?
chromosome or something that gives them their broad shoulders and some of their other attractive features? Seriously, I heard this somewhere when I was a preteen and am just now remembering it.
You are born the way you are. These women, a lot of the time, have broad shoulders because they are tall; they are built to their height.
An extra chromosome WILL NOT make someone more beautiful.
Male and female gametes join together at fertilisation, to a new zygote (diploid cell) this cell divides by meiosis to provide a complete new organism.
When the cell is about to divide, the chromosomes condense and then separate. Each pair of chromosomes is known as a homologous pair, and they contain the same genes. You receive one from your mother and one from your father. Although they contain the same genes they do not necessarily carry the same version of each gene.
The human Karyotype contains 46 chromosomes (22 pairs of autosomes and two sex chromosomes) the use of the Karyotype is to detect Chromosomal abnormalities. I can go on and on about this but it would take up about 10 pages so I’ll cut to the chase. What happens if someone has an extra chromosome? Chromosome mutations occur in the whole blocks of genes, which give rise to syndromes. Another common failure is Non-Disjunction. This is where the gametes fail to separate during Amphase I of Meiosis. Some gametes get both chromosomes while others receive neither.
Okay, so if someone had, say three of chromosome 21 or Trisomy 21 as it’s called, would suffer from mental retardation (Down’s syndrome)
Trisomy 13 = Patau Syndrome
Trisomy 18 = Edwards syndrome
There is also Turner’s syndrome. Children with Turners Syndrome will only have one X chromosome, so 45 in totals.
There are four changes which occur to cause these disorders: deletion, duplication, inversion and reciprocal translation.
Deletion is when a chromosome splits and fragment is lost and the parts rejoin. Sometimes a whole set of genes is lost and this is often fatal.
Duplication is where a section of chromosome is copied twice. Where a pair of chromosomes breaks at different places and reconnect to the wrong partners. One would have two and the other would have neither.
Inversion results when a broken segment is reinserted in the wrong order. Genes contained in this region will be transcribed and translated backwards, therefore will not make the correct proteins.
Finally reciprocal translocation, where two non-homologous chromosomes exchange segments, making the chromosomes an unequal size causing a problem during meiosis where the daughter cell receives the wrong chromosomes.
So there you have it, does any of that sound like it could make a supermodel to you?
EDIT:
Unless you were thinking of Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (AIS) or Klinefelter’s Syndrome?
AIS is a condition where a genetically male child can develop outwardly as a female. The receptor proteins for the male hormones (androgens) don’t work properly, so the embryo fails to read signs that it should continue to turn male. The syndrome can go undetected until the teens wen puberty fails to happen. Genetic analysis reveals that the ‘girl’ is actually male, despite looking and acting like a girl. They are therefore unable to have children. It is believed that Queen Elizabeth I suffered from this also, along with Marilyn Monroe.
Yes you are right to a CERTAIN extent, but it is not ALWAYS associated with models (not all models suffer from this, but it is believed a good percentage do have this)
The list of signs and symptoms mentioned in various sources for Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome includes the 27 symptoms listed below:
Female body type, tallness, female infertility, lack of periods, delayed menarche, primary amenorrhea, genetic male XY chromosomes; normal appearing female external genitals;
normal female body shape – except for some degree of tallness; normal female voice; normal female breast enlargement; normal female hip pattern; normal female body hair pattern; misplaced testes hidden in abdomen; lack of uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries; short internal vagina; low estrogen levels; development of female breasts in males; female sexual characteristics; absent uterus; short vagina; sparse axillary hair; sparse pubic hair; undescended testes – sometimes present in the labia; infertility; female genitalia; coexisting female and male genitalia.
So yes, you heard correct but they have an extra Y chromosome so (XXY) but it is not responsible for making them better looking.

Pete ‘n’ Keely (Original Cast Recording) $16.85 There’s a lot of schlock on Broadway these days, so it’s especially frustrating when a small, off-Broadway show doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Carried by the indomitable George Dvorsky and Sally Mayes in the title roles, Pete ‘n’ Keely should have been a lot more successful than it was, so we’re lucky to have this recording to immortalize the little show that should have been.
